Millenium and Copthorne Hotels have lodged plans to expand their George Square address to replace rooms that will be lost as a result of Queen Street Station expansion. “A new civic space is positioned at the heart of these proposals that echoes the “courtyard” form of development found in neighbouring blocks.“
Further revisions are planned ahead of a renewed application on 19 January. Investigative work will also be undertaken to remove paintwork to expose stonework whilst a 1986 glazed conservatory will be removed, allowing reinstatement of the original façade. This will see a new masonry clad insertion to the rear of the existing historic frontage, gradiated in height to meet the bulk of a planned BDP designed MSCP.
